A good Puncture Vine Clean-up Kit consists of:
A paper or canvas grocery bag (the thorns tear up plastic bags);
rose gloves;
a broom and dust pan or portable vacuum cleaner to pick up the seeds;
implements to loosen the hard soil around the taproot:
like an old spoke and/or any long, thin, stiff, straight pieces of metal;
a 1- or 3-prong hand-hoe;
a garden shears to cut off extra-long branches;
a reflective vest for those roadside eradication expeditions;
and a bag labeled Puncture Vine Kit to hold it all together.
When you are done weeding,
make sure there are no goat heads stuck to the bottoms of your shoes,
or threatening your own bike tires.
Find a responsible way to dispose of it, without it spilling more goat heads on the ground.
It is an invasive, non-native species, so feel free to remove it.
