Electric Velomobiles (e-velos)
A velomobile is a human-powered vehicle which is partly or fully enclosed for aerodynamic advantage and protection from weather and collisions. Some have fairings which are removable in good weather. They are virtually always single-passenger vehicles.
Recumbent bicycles and tricycles are the base upon which velomobiles and betterbikes are built; add enclosure for velos or electric motor for betterbikes. Add both enclosure and motor for an electric velomobile or e-velo.
With the addition of motor assistance to extend range and make hills easier, e-velos look and feel like "micro cars". In North America, e-velos are categorized as electric bicycles and operate under e-bike rules and regulations.

ELF
The ELF is designed with the busy commuter in mind. The ride height puts you in sight of other drivers while the body is still slim enough to navigate bike trails. There is plenty of room to stash your laptop case and pick up several bags of groceries on the way home. Recharge the removable battery pack by parking your ELF in the sun or by plugging it in to a standard outlet. Upgrade to a more powerful solar panel to stay off grid or add a NuVinci 360 hub to ease your ride. Additional upgrades and features will be available.

Primarily designed as a commuter vehicle, the Aerorider's electric drive assist supports speeds up to 50 km/h but can be limited depending on national legislation. Because it has 3 wheels and full bodywork, the driver is not obliged to wear a helmet in Europe. (In the U.S., however, e-bike rules apply.) Currently (2006) hand-manufactured in the Netherlands and priced (with delivery) under $10,000, it's available from Aerorider BV, http://www.aerorider.com/ It's 600-watt motor and aerodynamic shape combine to offer a 28 mph top speed without pedaling; pedaling increases top speed, acceleration and range.
